Ovis uses cameras for facial recognition and a movement tracking algorithm to lock in on its owner and stick with her or him at a speed of six miles per hour. Ovis is able to avoid collisions as it makes its way through crowds, according to its maker, which is now producing the suitcase after […]
What’s the most valuable asset to a pilot? Many would probably tell you time, especially when there’s a business interest involved. For most pilots, getting from point A to point B as safely, quickly and efficiently as possible is the main objective. Fortunately, we have a tool that can help. Our built-in Pre-Departure Clearance (PDC) services on FltPlan.com were created to help flight crews and passengers save valuable time, allowing them to get airborne, and […]
A kite-blown science expedition to the interior of Antarctica has made the most southerly positioning fixes yet made with Europe’s Galileo satellite navigation system. Their measurements not only confirm Galileo performance at extremely high latitudes, but also offer knowledge of space weather events overhead. In particular they offer insights into the ionosphere – the electrically active upper layer of Earth’s atmosphere – above the southern continent, and the performance of Galileo software […]

Norway’s foreign intelligence unit on Monday expressed renewed concerns that its GPS signals in the country’s Far North were being jammed, as Oslo again blamed Russia for the “unacceptable” acts. In its annual national risk assessment report, the intelligence service said that in repeated incidents since 2017, GPS signals have been blocked from Russian territory in Norwegian regions near the border with Russia. The jamming events have often coincided with military exercises on Norwegian soil, […]

Every morning 36-year-old Robert Hicks is out of bed with the sunrise. Sometimes earlier. He fixes 2 eggs and 2 pieces of whole wheat toast with a slice of real cheese for breakfast. “None of that processed crap,” as he puts it. After a cup of black coffee, Robert puts on his Garmin vívosmart 3, and he starts walking. He walks at least 30 minutes in the morning. He gets in at least 10 miles […]
The position of the Earth’s magnetic North Pole — used in navigation systems such as smartphones — is moving far faster than it has, sending scientists scrambling to put out a new model this week. The magnetic North is the point at which the planet’s magnetic field points vertically down. The World Magnetic Model is critical to sea and military navigation — as well as our ubiquitous smartphones. It normally is updated every five years […]
Space Flight Laboratory (SFL) has launched three formation-flying HawkEye 360 Pathfinder 15-kilogram, 20 x 27 x 44-centimeter microsatellites designed to detect and geolocate radio frequency (RF) signals.
