Inside look: Garmin Health Scalable Prevention Insight Report

July 29, 2026
Garmin Health, a globally focused division of Garmin, supports forward-thinking third-party digital health solutions with Garmin Health Connected Ecosystem (GHCE), comprised of the Garmin product portfolio and its data integration services. As industries like insurance, healthcare and research look to reduce the global disease burden, earlier intervention and behavior modification are made possible through scalable prevention systems using GHCE.
The newly released Garmin Health Scalable Prevention Insight Report details several of these collaborations and shares a unique perspective from Garmin Health leadership about the intersection of scalability and preventive care.
Here is a short preview of what you can find in the report.
Introduction
Despite progress in addressing preventable chronic conditions, healthcare still relies heavily on an episodic model, meaning care often comes only after problems arise. This can make it difficult to support individuals consistently between healthcare interactions. Today, 4.6 billion people around the world lack access to essential services, and more than 2 billion face financial hardship when seeking medical care. These barriers can limit the impact of preventive measures like screenings and early detection.
As rates of chronic disease continue to rise, healthcare organizations are increasingly exploring ways to support earlier awareness and healthier behaviors. Perhaps most illuminating is this statistic: 74% of deaths worldwide occur from noncommunicable diseases, many of which are driven by modifiable risk factors.
Shifting to continuous, data-driven care
Over the past decade, consumer-grade wearables1, notably smartwatches and fitness trackers, have helped transform how people track physical activity, understand baseline biometric indicators of health and adapt behavior. As 24/7 biometric monitoring becomes part of daily life, its role is expanding beyond fitness and well-being into clinical care settings. These developments highlight how continuous, real-world biometric data can complement traditional care models by providing longitudinal insights that support earlier intervention.
Garmin Health collaborators
- National Taiwan University: Researchers from National Taiwan University have developed a mobile-assisted case management platform using GHCE data with digital questionnaires to support preventive mental health care. By combining continuous wearable biometrics such as heart rate, sleep stages, and activity levels with patient-reported inputs, the platform enables machine learning models to predict panic attacks up to seven days in advance.
- University of Colorado and Mayo Clinic: University of Colorado and Mayo Clinic researchers have leveraged GHCE to build a foundational tool for studying physician burnout. This tool provides physicians with real-time visibility into their own physiological data.
- Vitality: Powered by Vitality Active Rewards, Vitality’s behavior change program integrates GHCE data to drive preventive health through sustained, data-driven engagement. By combining continuous tracking of activity, sleep, heart rate and other program inputs, the platform delivers personalized goals and incentives that encourage healthier behaviors over time.
- YourPrevention – The YourPrevention (yP™) platform utilizes GHCE to make mental health more quantifiable through continuous, data-driven monitoring. By combining Garmin wearable biometrics such as heart rate variability, day stress, sleep and Body Battery™ with additional behavioral and contextual inputs, the platform analyzes trends over time to identify early indicators of stress and recovery imbalance.
Jörn Watzke, senior director of Garmin Health global sales, summarizes the need for these innovative solutions, saying, “As the health and wellness industry expands, prevention continues to be one of the primary discussion points, and for good reason. Aging populations and growing rates of chronic conditions are placing increasing demands on traditional care models. Digital health solutions can help improve access to care for people limited by geography, income, mobility and other factors.”
