October 23, 2014Recommended, cheap, easy to use, tons of features,
Sent ‘begin’, ‘change password’, ‘set admin phone’ SMS text messages – got the expected reply each time. Sent ‘Arm’, ‘status check’ & ‘Send IMEI’ commands and got the responses right away. Sent ‘fix’ command to give location every 30 seconds for 5 times, and the fully formatted message reply had lat/ long, speed, a clickable link to google maps and ‘power’, ‘door’ and ‘ACC’ status.
I am impressed! I didn’t set up anything on my iPhone 5 – the text message received is already spaced out with line breaks and punctuation and the complete hyperlink – I expected there would be more setup required.
The manual I got is very good. Sure there are some silly mistranslations (“oil cutoff ” should be “ignition cutoff”) but all the features are covered – just read every word. I tied most of the wires back out of my way but will eventually wire this into my car alarm. Very heavy duty ignition-sized wires attached to a nice relay are included, and right away i was impressed with the packaging (recessed cushioning, compartment inside and magnetic(!) box flap closure.
There are a lot of clones of the Xexun and Coban (this unit) models that are around the same price. My advice is buy from a US seller (or one in your country) so if it is a crappy / broken clone you can return it. Also there is a great forum called GPS Passion – google it and go to the “LIVE tracker” forum.

October 23, 2014If you can get it to work, it works pretty dang well,
I’m honestly surprised, I didn’t expect this product to work at all.
I put this on my motorcycle so that my parents could keep track of me during my cross country tours. I’m fairly tech savvy, and didn’t want to pay for a full YEAR of SPOT service when I’d only be needing it for a couple of months. This product has a lot of superfluous uses that I just cut off; I just wanted something I could put on that my parents could track in real time. After about 10 hours of fiddling, I finally got it to do just that, so I’m going to walk you through exactly how to do that, step by step, so that you can have yours up and running in less than 2 hours.
– Buy this product, as well as a standard size sim card from H2O wireless, also available here on amazon. They cost a penny. Upon arrival, go to the h2owirelessnow website and activate the sim, then preload it with $10 and do NOT sign it up for a data plan. Pay per use is 10 cents per megabyte, and you’ll have to refill this every three months after it expires. They will ask for an IMEI, which is on a sticker on the side of the tracker itself. Make note of the phone number.
– Install the product on the bike. For simple tracking, like I did, you’ll need only the red wire and the black wire to remain on the wiring harness. If you want to install the other parts, do so at your own risk. Cut off the others with a pair of scissors and wrap them in electrical tape individually to ensure they dont short out. Remove the fuse before proceeding. Attach the positive (red) and negative (black) to their corresponding terminals directly on the battery itself.
– Attach the GPS and GSM antennae in a place where they have a direct view of the sky. The GPS is magnetic and the GSM has a piece of double stick tape that will make it easier. Plug them in to their corresponding ports on the device.
– Insert the sim by pressing the little yellow button with a paperclip to remove the tray.
– Reinsert the fuse, which should power the device on. You can also switch on the battery backup at this point. After about five minutes, the LED light should glow green, and flash red once every three seconds. That means its working properly, and is connected to the network and satellite.
– From your cell phone, text the following commands to the device to the phone number given by h2o, without quotes. Each one should be a seperate text, and it will respond with a confirmation saying it’s OK when completed:
– “begin123456”
– “apn123456 att.mvno”
– “gprs123456”
– “adminip123456 193.193.165.166 20462”
– “T015m***n123456” – this one won’t get a response
Now, the product comes with a program and directs you to a gpstrackerxy.com, which is a poorly designed chinese website that gives you one month free, then charges $15 a year after that. This was fine with me, because it worked, except that there is no way to actually pay for that subscription. The settings you’ve now texted in will instead work with gps-trace.com, which is a free, open source tracking program.
– So, go to gps-trace.com and make an account. The Unique ID is the IMEI, same one as is on the sticker on the side of the box. The phone number should be in international format, being +1, then your area code and number. When choosing a device type, this is a Xexun TK103-2.
We have the settings set to update every fifteen minutes, but it can take a while. Let the map sit for about half an hour and your vehicle should show up after that. you can change the amount of time it takes to update by altering the last text that we sent to it. All in all, though, it should be working now! The power is constantly drawing off your battery, so if you expect to have it sit for a while I suggest you unplug the wiring harness and shut off the battery. There are two optional things you may want to do as well, I will describe them:
– The unit has the ability to stop sending GPRS signals when the GPS is not moving. After moving again, it will begin sending signals once more. This can save both battery and data. To enable this, text “less gprs123456 on” and to disable text “less gprs123456 off”.
– You may want to do a single track of your vehicle if it is updating slowly or not updating at all. One way to do this is to call the device. It will ring once, hang up on you, then send you a text with longitude, latitude, and a google maps link. The other way to do this is by using gps-trace.com. Go to unit properties by clicking the wrench, then go to the commands tab. Press new, and change the command name to “Single Track”. Don’t change any other settings until you get to the bottom, just below where it says “Without paramaters”. In that box, type “**,imei:<imei>,B;” without quotes, and replacing <imei> with…
