July 14, 2016Very Disappointed,
I have Navionics+ on my I-phone and Android tablet and love the software and charts . But I wanted a toughened waterproof unit I could use on a sailboat, with a depth transducer. I built a wood base that holds a small 12V battery and the GPS unit. The GPS unit sits above the battery, so it has clear access to the sky. The amount of time it takes for this unit to lock onto satellites is terrible! It can take 10-15 minutes for it to get a lock. And heaven forbid that you move the boat before it gets a GPS lock. It will NOT get a GPS lock on even on a slow moving sailboat. 3 Hours later it was still looking for satellites.
Even then, when it loses a GPS lock because I happen to put it on the cockpit floor (still good view of the sky), it beeps incessantly, and you constantly have to push the OK button. After pressing it about 50 times, I had to shut the darn thing off. I switched to my old trusty Garmin 78sc handheld.
Even when it does get a GPS lock, the lettering on the display is very small. I have to put my face about 4″ from the display to be able to read the water depths or other writing on the chart. There’s no way to make the text bigger. When you zoom in, the lettering stays the same size. Also, when switching screens or setting up, the processor speed seems to be very slow. Also, I was very disappointed to realize that you cannot do real trip routing with this unit. My $25 Navionics app on my phone will do it, but Raymarine wants you to spend over a grand before they put that capability in their units. Highly annoying.
For the rather high price of the unit, I was expecting something quite a bit faster, more capable and less finicky. I’m very disappointed in the Raymarine Dragonfly.

July 14, 2016Works like a charm,
Pros: Powers up fast; acquires satellite signal fast; nice bright and clear screen; the attached mount can come off of the included ball, and fit a 1″ Ram ball; and the instructions are easy to read.
Cons: The data cable, from the transducer, is way too long for a kayak, and you cann’t shorten it; the user interface is not as intuitive as I’d like; the glass screen is slightly polarized, so you can’t wear polarizing sunglasses; the transducer takes some jury-rigging, if you’re not using the transom mount that comes with the unit; and it drains some battery even when turned off.

July 14, 2016Raymarine 5 Pro is Five Stars for me!,
The fish arches on the sonar are very clear and can even be seen on the down vison. The GPS seems to update fine, no lag as with some models. I would recommend this product to others. Now if it would just attract those salmon and Lakers to my bait..
