April 28, 2011Pretty good except for one thing…,
I purchased the GPS60CSX and the mount for my motorcycle after my Garmin Legend fell off its mount and reading about the higher end motorcycle units having vibration issues. When I got this mount, I was a little concerned that the GPS wouldn’t stay in it, I couldn’t find anyway for it to stay attached. What I missed in the instructions (or they didn’t say) is you have to use the clip from the belt unit that comes with the GPS60CSX.
Once the clip was put on the GPS, it clicked in solidly. At little too solidly which is why it gets a 4. I’m not too keen about leaving the GPS on my bike when I stop to eat or something, and taking it out of the holder is a little difficult. I guess that’s good because it means it won’t just pop out.
I have used, and still use, Ram mounts. They are solidly built and well constructed. The double-ball figure-8 design makes it pretty easy to put the unit where you need it. My only other complaint is that they are difficult to adjust while riding and using one hand. Of course, one could argue that I shouldn’t be doing that also.
For safety, I loop the GPS lanyard around the mount so in case it does pop out of it’s holder, the lanyard will keep it attached until I can pull over.
