Couple Escapes Grizzly Bear While on Canoe Trip

November 15, 2019 When Todd and Kerri Mozinski left for the Northwest Territories of Canada for a weekslong canoe trip, they told friends and family to expect them back in 40 days. Five days in, sitting awake through the night as an 8’ grizzly bear circled their camp, they realized that perhaps they had misjudged that guidance. Their only mode of transportation had been torn apart by the claws of the bear — along with […]

TeamX Builder Spotlight: Back in the Pilot’s Seat

November 14, 2019 Flying plays an interesting role in each of our lives. For some it’s a career and a way of life. For others it’s more of a hobby or pastime. No matter what role it takes, there are occasionally times when it gets pushed to the bottom of the priority list. That was the case for Garmin TeamX engineer Bob Godsy. After earning a private pilot license in high school, flying would take […]

Russia to launch glass sphere into space before new year to obtain

Russia plans to launch into orbit a spherical glass satellite for measuring Earth’s gravity field by the end of December, documents revealed. The BLITS-M retroreflector satellite will be launched together with three Gonets-M communications satellites using the Rokot carrier rocket, scheduled to take off from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome on December 25. The BLITS-M satellite is an improved version of the Russian BLITS (Ball Lens In The Space) satellite. It is […]

Webinar talks GNSS final frontier — space

A free GPS World webinar on Nov. 21 tackles a new frontier, if not the final one, for GNSS. “Developments in Space GNSS Navigation,” sponsored by NovAtel, brings together experts from NASA, ESA, NovAtel and Spire (the CubeSat company) to discuss how they’re taking GNSS capabilities beyond Earth’s boundaries. Navigating through space has long proven to be challenge for aerospace engineers and professionals because of the complex combination of technology and cost required for success. […]

High performance electrical circuits made with 3D-printed plastics

Rutgers engineers have embedded high performance electrical circuits inside 3D-printed plastics, which could lead to smaller and versatile drones and better-performing small satellites, biomedical implants and smart structures. They used pulses of high-energy light to fuse tiny silver wires, resulting in circuits that conduct 10 times more electricity than the state of the art, according to a study in the journal Additive Manufacturing. By increasing conductivity 10-fold, the engineers can reduce energy […]

New Trimble R12 receiver boosts surveying performance

Photo: Trimble Trimble has introduced the the R12 GNSS receiver, a high-performance GNSS surveying solution. Powered by a new real-time kinematic (RTK) and Trimble RTX positioning engine, it features Trimble ProPoint GNSS technology that empowers land surveyors to quickly measure more points in more places than previously. Surveyors who work in challenging GNSS environments can use the Trimble R12 receiver to help reduce both the time in the field and the need for conventional techniques […]
