This is highly recommended for your first GPS. Most functions are preset and there are not many selections. I have had many Garmin, Tom Tom GPSs, I like the ability to set a lot of Preferences. My wife is not very computer literate so she likes this unit. If you are a teche you will not like it. Note: I normally travel with at least two and maybe three different bands. They all will give you different information; My wife travels with a Garmin and Tom Tom which I set up for her.
If you ever travel with two brands you will never go back to just one brand.
If your are a novice and wants something that will work out of the box without any adjustments then this is the unit for you.

I purchased a Magellan 5045 Roadmate for my wife’s birthday. As with all our electronic devices, I purchase screen protectors. This protector just didn’t hit it’s mark. It’s about 1/8th of an inch short on all sides when centered. And if you start it flush to corner, it’s 1/4 inch off at the other ends.
So does it work? Sort of. Does it fit like it should? No.
