Hummingbird instructions are ok but not great. I doubt anyone buys this unit without purcashing lake mapping software. There is not a lot of instructions for how to use the navionics software.

April 9, 2015my bad luck…,
i’m now on my second 859 and yesterday it started having the same issues as the first one. it will power up and immediately start shutting down only to start the whole process over on it’s own over and over again. the only way to stop it is to disconnect the power supply.
I emailed Huminbird and am waiting a reply…

I switched from lowrance to humminbird for 2 main reasons…better customer service and their association with minn-kota. I wanted my new unit to have great lake map capability, I-pilot link, a large screen, all for a reasonable price. I don’t enjoy fishing with down or side imaging and didn’t want to pay for a feature that I find unnecessary. The depth and speed readings are quite accurate and consistent. Even with the internal gps, I find that it compares well with previous external gps units. Overall, I’m very pleased and will be purchasing an identical unit.
