How to get HSA/FSA reimbursement for Garmin products

Save with HSA/FSA reimbursement

October 23, 2025

Qualified individuals can use their health savings account (HSA) and flexible spending account (FSA) funds to reimburse themselves after buying eligible Garmin devices, including fitness and health tracking products — and even smartwatches.

Through our collaboration with Truemed, customers may be eligible to use their HSA/FSA funds for qualified purchases. By completing a health survey, qualified individuals can receive a letter of medical necessity (LMN), which unlocks the ability to reimburse themselves for eligible Garmin purchases using pretax dollars.

Here’s how it works.

What is an HSA or FSA?

HSAs and FSAs are two types of tax-advantaged plans that allow you to set aside pretax dollars for eligible health care expenses. HSA funds don’t have a time limit, while FSA funds must be spent within the year.

How does using HSA/FSA funds save money?

You get more purchasing power because these accounts house pretax dollars.

Let’s say you get paid $100, but $30 is taken out for taxes. You’d have $70 left to spend from your regular checking account.

If you direct the same $100 to fund your HSA/FSA, the full $100 is set aside. So, when you spend $100 from your HSA or FSA, you’d have $100 to spend — giving you savings of around 30%1.

How can qualified individuals get reimbursed for eligible Garmin products with HSA/FSA funds?

First, you’ll make your purchase. Don’t use an HSA/FSA card during checkout. Then, you’ll check your confirmation screen or order confirmation email for a link to the Truemed survey to determine eligibility.

Next, you’ll complete a private health assessment. Make sure to take it the same day as your purchase.

A licensed provider will review your answers to determine your eligibility2. If approved, you’ll receive an LMN within a day or two. Items included in your letter are qualified medical expenses. With an LMN, exercise and other health purchases qualify as medical expenses if they treat or prevent an illness and are substantiated by a qualified practitioner. The Truemed letter helps fulfill IRS requirements.

Then, follow the guide included with your LMN to submit your purchase for reimbursement3. These claims are often paid in 2 to 4 weeks.

If you don’t have enough in your HSA/FSA to reimburse the full purchase, you can still submit for partial reimbursement.

Can you use your HSA/FSA card to buy Garmin products?

If you’re purchasing a product that doesn’t require an LMN, then yes. Those include many of our scales and monitors.

However, if the product is HSA/FSA eligible through Truemed, you’ll need to follow the steps for qualification and reimbursement.
