Garmin Smartwatches and the Neptune Care App Provide Continuous

A doctor and a patient review health data on the patient's Garmin smartwatch.

The Orbit Health app, Neptune Care, pairs with a compatible Garmin smartwatch to provide insight into Parkinson’s motor symptoms and treatment responses.

Integration objective:

Health tech company Orbit Health is pioneering an AI solution to personalize treatment for Parkinson’s disease, and they’re using Garmin smartwatches to do it. In the company’s CE-marked Neptune Care app, people with Parkinson’s disease will be able to monitor their motor symptoms and treatment responses, allowing their treatment plans to be adjusted to better meet their needs — as long as they’re wearing a Garmin smartwatch.

Methodology:

The Neptune Care app pairs with compatible Garmin smartwatches to provide continuous, round-the-clock monitoring using high-quality sensor technology that captures a patient’s raw accelerometer and gyroscope data. By leveraging the Garmin Health Connected Ecosystem, Orbit Health processes this information and displays intuitive, easy-to-read visualizations for Parkinson’s-specific motor symptoms and treatment responses in the Neptune Care app.

Rather than only checking in at a quick appointment every few months, people with Parkinson’s and their physicians will be able to view these continuous responses to gain valuable insight into their symptoms, responses to treatment and disease progression. They then can work with their doctor to find more precise and personalized care, better symptom control, and fewer side effects and complications.

Orbit Health plans to continue to expand the Neptune project by incorporating other Garmin metrics, including beat-to-beat interval (BBI), heart rate monitoring, Pulse Ox1, respiration rate and stress levels.

After years of rigorous research, development, and validation with Parkinson’s clinical experts and people with Parkinson’s, we are excited to launch our unique Parkinson’s treatment tracking AI solution – the Neptune solution – together with Garmin Health. With the worldwide distribution channel from Garmin and their high-quality smartwatches, the collaboration expands the access for Neptune and enhances comfort and usability. It’s time to change the way we manage Parkinson’s, because now we can.” — Patty Lee, Orbit Health co-founder and CEO
