Yes, this adds the Russian & some european satellite systems ( 26 + additional satellites, I believe) as additional international inputs and gives slightly more precision. The the GA- 30 “only” uses U.S. satellite input. Both are awesome, albeit passive receivers. I’ve seem immense improvement in the accuracy and clarity of my position with both. Since I finally have have both, I pluged the model 30 to my 541s( backup), and am going to connect the Model 38 to my new 741xs. You only need the smart receivers ( Raystar, Evermore, Mareon, etc.) if you travel internationally, or want a a extremely fast refresh rate, or for autopilot.
The 741xs also has a radar direct usb for garmin radar, and is an XM radio receiver, chirp, etc. Radar gives radar data, even overlays , wish the 541x ( discontinued 2 years after introduction) had additional ability, albeit it is direct connect to NMEA 2000. SO….if buying this, make sure you have an up to date sonar/gps/map/with ultra fast panning – otherwise GA- 30 is more than enough.

Replacement for the Garmin GPSMAP 178/178C Sounder Antenna. It comes with all the mounting option brackets, cable and hardware. It was easy to connect worked in the existing screw holes. It has these little tap in screws that holds it to the base but I’m going to fill the screw holes with Marine 4000 UV Adhesive because its mount now and I will most likley drop the screws and loose them.
