So I decided to try the GTM 60 HD receiver. After I bought it, I tried it in the Washington DC area for a couple weeks. It seemed to work fine and I always had a signal. As one other reviewer mentioned, it takes a while to clear the cache of the advertising. I selected the coupon on the screen, and then after it could not find the coupon with the new traffic service I turned the unit off and then on. This cleared the coupon from the screen.
I recently took it on two college visit trips with my daughter. We flew to Florida and drove around the Daytona Beach Orlando area and I had a signal the entire time. I then drove from Washington DC to Columbus and Akron OH and back. I had a traffic signal the entire time even in the remote mountainous areas of PA. Approaching Columbus, I got a warning that the current route was blocked and a new route was provided. A few miles down the road an overhead traffic sign confirmed that the route was in fact blocked. I was provided a new route which completely avoided this delay.
The traffic updates are much faster, and personally I think getting rid of those annoying adds is worth the cost.

October 1, 2015GTM 60 vs GTM 26 — Problems with GTM 60,
So, I decided to buy the GTM 60 for the “3D Traffic and Digital Traffic from the HD Radio Broadcasting System” or, as another reviewer stated “for the ‘better’ traffic” capability.
The other reviewer stated in his/her experience “So far over a couple days, I’ve only had 2 signal bars of service for about 3 minutes. The rest of the time the traffic is either “Searching for signal, receiver disconnected, or weak signal for 10 minutes (or longer).”
Let me say “ditto” to that. I compared both the GTM 26 and the GTM 60 in road tests, driving over the same roads on a 5 mile round trip, here in the Dallas area. The GTM 26 performed great over the entire distance (mostly 5 green bars of traffic reception). The GTM 60 mostly displayed the same results as the other user’s results–little or no signal, searching, a 9 minutes “no signal”, etc.
So much for the the two options of the GTM 60 purported capability of using either the Digital 3D (like the GTM 26) or the touted Digital HD 3D traffic capability.
By the way, my software for the GPS is current as of 1-17-2012.
I am waiting to hear from Garmin to see if an exchange will solve the problem or if a refund is in order.

UPDATE (1-23-2012):
After reporting the problems I have been experiencing with the GTM 60 vs my GTM 26 cable, and subsequently returning the GTM 60 to Garmin, I received the following reply from Garmin:
“I am sorry that you were having issues with the GTM 60 cable. It is certainly a software issue that is being researched by both Garmin and NAVTEQ. I see that you have returned the cable for an $84.42 credit.

October 1, 2015If you don’t have enough reason to doubt your sanity, get a GTM 60! But, oh how nice!,
But, while I don’t begrudge Garmin their ads, I don’t like them. I had an MSN subscription for my previous GPSs, so I was primed to shell out for an ad free receiver (and an added bonus of more frequent updates, 30 seconds v 3 minutes).
When you plug in the GTM-60, traffic information is supposed to start within 5 minutes of receiving satellite reception, but there’s no obvious way to tell. Under Settings, Traffic continues to show NAVTEQ, there’s nothing to indicate which traffic unit the GPS thinks is attached, and there are ads at start up! The instructions say something about registering the unit at […], but when you go there, there’s no way to register the unit!
After 20 minutes on hold, I was connected to a knowledgeable technician who sorted things out…and here we go!
* The subscription does indeed start up when the GPS connects with a satellite.
* There is no need to register the unit to get it to function.
* There is no obvious way to tell that the GPS knows it’s attached to a 60 rather than the GTM 26 that comes with the GPS.
* The ads are cached in memory. They take a few days to go away.
* A software update was made available around 11/20/’11, and he recommended strongly that I apply it. It installed easily.
But how does it perform? Outstanding! I’ve had free traffic units and mostly used MSN Direct before the 2012 models came out, so I was expecting something along the same lines…but, NO!
I’ve posted some pictures (taken while I was stopped!) to illustrate what goes on.
The GTM-60 has the usual Garmin Traffic Red, Yellow, and Green icons to indicate general traffic conditions. When there are traffic delays,
* the GTM-60 begins by turning the title bar grey and describe what’s coming up–for example, Stop and go traffic ahead.
* After a few seconds, the title bar reverts to green and a grey traffic icon appears on the left hand side of the screen to tell you the distance to the event.
* Pressing on this icon gives detailed information about the delay.
