August 25, 2016Level of detail is poor – this is for a handheld,
Useful features from the 530HCx have been removed, there is no satellite view screen. You can’t access the unit while it’s plugged into the USB port except via Garmin software. It gives the appearance of charging, since the screen lights up while plugged in, but it charges only via Garmin proprietary charger interface.
Screen seems dim and low-res, despite being set to max bright.
Overall it’s an adequate radio that gives you GPS coordinates and a so-so mapping experience, along with its polling and other features. Probably better constructed than the old 530HCx it replaced, but not as useful. Good if you need to communicate in back country and know pretty close to where you are, but could have been much better.
