   The cord does not support the traffic feature on the Garmin. also, it can’t carry data, so it can’t be used when updating your Garmin maps and software online. it’s a basic power cable and does not enable all the features you need for the Garmin. this can not fully replace an actual Garmin cable. If you only need to power the device then it works well. If you need to replace the original Garmin cable to allow for Traffic updates and being able to update software and maps from a PC. IT Cannot do that. Power only.

   I purchased this to power my Garmin GPS 2689 – it works, and the cable is much shorter than the factory option – which was the primary reason for the purchase. I also have the USB connected via a double USB outlet, so am able to charge a phone at the same time.
   NOTE: one of the reviewers stated it enabled the “traffic warning” function. It did NOT for mine, and the GPS screen notes this each time it is turned on. As others have noted, it apparently does not work as the PC connection cable – that is not a problem for me.
   Only 4 stars for the lack of Traffic, but still a good purchase for me.

   The Garmin Nuvi uses a modified USB pinout for charging. If you plug a standard mini USB cable into the Nuvi, it thinks you want to transfer data and it won’t go into navigation mode without a fair amount of fuss. At least that’s how mine works. When I bought this item, I didn’t know whether or not it had the mod. And if it had the mod, it might be implemented in either the cable or the charger. But it was cheap, so I gave it a shot. I was pleased to learn that the mod is in the cable, which means I can use it with any charger, which is exactly what I did. I’m using the cable from this set with a small two-output charger so that I can power my Nuvi and my phone simultaneously from my car’s single receptacle. Because of the modified wiring that makes this cable work properly as a power cable, it can’t be used to transfer data between the Nuvi and a computer, so you’ll still need a standard cable for that.
