Garmin Marine Ambassador Spotlight: Chris Jessen

I grew up in Connecticut where you could only fish in the summer months so my other hobby which I ended up turning into a career was Saltwater Aquariums. Hence the name of our current GT 63’ Hatteras “Fish Tank”. Our relationship with Garmin began back in 2008 when my wife and I sold our businesses in the northeast, moved to Florida and bought a 35ft center console. inReach in the Field: Clear Communications for Addressing Challenges

Each year, leaders at Apogee Adventures guide hundreds of high school students on cycling, backpacking, hiking and service trips around the globe. Apogee trips can be long in duration and often remote — from hiking the rugged French Pyrenees to cycling the U.S. from coast to coast. As with any outdoor adventure, there are occasional bumps and bruises endured along the way. Serious emergencies and evacuations on Apogee trips are rare, but one incident last year put […]

GSA launches testing campaign for agriculture receivers

The GSA is launching a new testing campaign for receiver manufacturers: The machine guidance testing campaign for agriculture receivers. Within this testing campaign, receivers usually used for machine guidance tasks will be thoroughly tested for their performance in various test cases, looking at multi-constellation and multi-frequency combinations and using several augmenting techniques. Given the accuracy requirement differential between machine guidance and automatic steering applications, less demanding applications from the point […]

New u-blox module aimed at lane accuracy in urban areas

The ZED-F9K module is designed to keep cars in their lanes. (Photo: u-blox) The new u‑blox ZED-F9K GNSS and dead-reckoning module is designed to bring continuous lane accurate positioning to challenging urban environments. The module offers both high-precision multi-band GNSS and inertial sensors. It combines the latest generation of GNSS receiver technology, signal processing algorithms and correction services to deliver down to decimeter-level accuracy within seconds, addressing the evolving needs of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and automated driving […]

Getting Properly Lost and Generously Found

There are some who plan their ventures meticulously to avoid difficulties or obstacles. Others embrace challenges and seek the unknown. For the latter, there is the Adventurists. Started by Tom Morgan, this U.K.-based company creates large-scale events where participants can escape, in their words, “boringness and predictability.” In 2016, Americans Scott Gurian and Drew Gurian participated in the Adventurists’ 2016 Mongol Rally — an epic road trip that took the brothers 7 weeks to complete.
