   Screen is very hard to read in direct sunlight, making it unreliable in open cockpit boats.

   It is a wonderful tool to have, but I wish it were better in direct sunlight. But nothing is[perfect.

   Purchased this unit to replace an older GPSMAP 273 to get the larger screen to use on my cruiser on Lake Powell. The built in charts show absolutely NO detail of Lake Powell, not even an outline of the shoreline. So purchased the high detail Lakes Vision – West microSD card to get the navigation and undersurface 3D view of the lake. The unit fails to recognize the microSD card from the start. There is nothing in the software like on the GPSMAP 273 that allows you to specify any additional map software available. To get the card to read, I had to have the unit plugged in to external power, pull the battery and reinsert the card each time I want to see the map of Lake Powell. Programmed several routes in Simulator mode then took to the lake two weeks ago. Now not only does the card fail to read on power up, when I do the trick of reinserting the card I get the message “Map Format Not Compatible”. What kind of nonsense is this? Trying to contact Garmin to get this fixed but if it continues to fail then I will return the unit and card for something that works.
