May 9, 2011Awesome,
We bought this radio for our bowrider and absolutly love it! It takes it little bit to get used to since you only use two buttons for all the basic controls but once you get familar with this unit you will be shocked at the things you can do with it. Our i-pod plugs directly into the front of the unit and all the control is transferred to the radio….so easy. Its nice not having cords plug into cords. You can never go wrong with Kenwood!

May 9, 2011Kenwood Kmr-440U CD/AM/FM Marine Receiver with Moisture Protection,
Briefly…just hooked up the unit. It took 5 min since the connector to my old JVC fit the back of this unit too!!! What a unexpected surprise that was. No wiring needed. Plug and play. The buttons took a little getting used to but I like the rubber turn knob. I like the fact that this volume knob doesnt push in to access other features and setting. If you go over any kind of bump while toggling you may inadvertently push in with that type. It gets annoying on the pioneer. The Kenwood makes it easy to toggle when on the road. I got this marine grade deck since I have a jeep without doors on it. Although the “moisture protection” is not visible at all if it is truly there somewhere. I could see a circuit board exposed on the back side. Great sound, $116.00 not of a bad deal. Wish it had blue tooth. One feature that I like on this Kenwood is that my Pioneer in my other car doesn’t have is the ability to thumb through your music from your iphone instead of using the deck controls. Much easier and faster I think. All in all I am pleased. Never have used Kenwood before, so far I like.

May 9, 2011Good Stereo for the Money,
I purchased this stereo for my boat based on past reviews and its price. I almost rated this 3 stars, but it’s not the stereo’s fault that I couldn’t get an answer from the supplier for a problem I had. So, here’s the scoop:
Pros:
1. The stereo looks and sound good.
2. Lots of modes and options to choose from when playing music.
3. Shipping was fast.
Cons:
1. While installation is standard using the single DIN mount, there is no A4/4mm stud provided for securing the rear of the unit. This stereo is supposed to be for marine applications, and most boats need to secure the radio from the rear also. Try and find the stud required at the local hardware store…good luck.
2. When the air temp is above 95, the unit has thermal runaway. Bottom line, once it starts to heat up, it keeps heating up so it gets so hot you can’t touch it. Below 95, it seems to maintain the air temp around it. This is what I wrote in about through Amazon to the supplier, but never did get a response, and why I almost rated it 3 stars.
3. The warranty from this supplier is 21 days and they reserve the right to decide everything regardless. So if you buy it, get it installed and check everything quickly, because after 3-weeks, your SOL. Again, they never answered my email about it overheating. The summers here are normally above 95 and that’s when we are at the lake. I just hope it holds up.
4. The contols are too confusing. You have to keep the book in you glove box, because you’re always referring to it.
For the money, it’s worth it. It does sound good. I only hope the heating problem doesn’t become a big issue.
