4 differences between Garmin fēnix 8 and fēnix 8 Pro

November 7, 2025
With the brightest smartwatch display ever introduced and inReach® technology for satellite and cellular connectivity1, the fēnix® 8 Pro Series is taking smartwatches to a new level.
Your adventures take you off the beaten path. You need a rugged premium GPS smartwatch that can keep up.
Maybe you’ve already been considering the fēnix 8 Series, but now you’re also wondering if fēnix 8 Pro Series is right for you.
Both deliver a purpose-built design, including a dive-rated build with leakproof metal buttons, a metal sensor guard cover, a titanium bezel and a built-in LED flashlight. And both bring you the Garmin health and wellness monitoring2, smart features and performance metrics as well as the training, planning and analysis features you rely on. You’ll still have enhanced maps and navigation tools, such as preloaded TopoActive maps and dynamic round-trip routing.
But whether you’re an ultrarunner looking to lighten your gear, a water sports athlete who needs to leave your phone behind, or you’re an early adopter of the latest and greatest tech, there are four key upgrades to the fēnix 8 Pro Series that you can’t get on the fēnix 8 Series: cellular connectivity, satellite connectivity, inReach® SOS capability and an option for the industry’s highest-resolution MicroLED display.
Let’s break those down.
1: Cellular connectivity
When connected to the LTE network, you can use fēnix 8 Pro to send 30-second voice messages as well as make and take phone calls from other fēnix 8 Pro users or those using the Garmin Messenger™ app on their smartphone.
Use LiveTrack to share your location with friends and family and send location check-ins. You can also alert them when a LiveTrack session begins, so they can follow along.
Plus, you can stay prepared with access to current weather conditions and multiday forecasts.
2: Satellite connectivity
Satellite coverage helps you stay connected wherever your adventures take you. With inReach connectivity, you can send and receive text messages with friends and family using the Garmin Messenger app on their smartphone or compatible Garmin smartwatch. You can send location updates to them so they can keep track of your progress.
Satellite messaging even works up to 50 miles offshore — so you can leave your phone at home during your next surfing adventure.
3: SOS capability
When you trigger an SOS on your fēnix 8 Pro, it sends a message over satellite or cellular connectivity to Garmin Response℠, our 24/7-staffed international emergency coordination center that connects you to help if you need it. Skilled emergency response coordinators communicate with you, your emergency contacts, search and rescue organizations, and other local resources. They’ll confirm when help is on the way and stay available until incident is resolved.
When you leave your phone at home, the inReach capabilities on fēnix 8 Pro can help give you peace of mind. The next time you venture beyond cellphone coverage, stay connected with the smartwatch on your wrist.
4: Ultrabright MicroLED display
With fēnix 8, you can choose between a bright AMOLED display (in three sizes, including 43 mm) or a solar charging display with a memory-in-pixel (MIP) screen.
You’ve also got two display options with fēnix 8 Pro: AMOLED or MicroLED. The latter features more than 400,000 individual LEDs that deliver up to 4,500 nits — meaning it’s the brightest smartwatch ever built. This revolutionary display offers rich colors, wide viewing angles, high pixel densities and superior readability even in harsh lighting.
fēnix 8 Pro brings a new level of connectivity and brightness to your outdoor adventures. (Just don’t forget to set up your inReach plan first. You can learn more about your options here).
Next time you head out to explore the backcountry or run through the unknown, stay connected with the fēnix 8 Pro or fēnix 8 Pro – MicroLED premium GPS smartwatch.
